kabel family vacay: OBX
Before this trip, I sat down and thought about the last time my family has all been together in one place and it's been years! In saying that, I was so excited to spend some much needed family time at the beach. This was also the first time all the sisters and boyfriends would be together with my parents. I had such an amazing time with my family for our week vacation in Corolla, Outer Banks on the beautiful North Carolina coast. It went by way too fast. I flew out of Dallas on Saturday to Washington DC where my twin sister Chelsey lives. We were starving so we went to eat dinner at a new seafood restaurant close to where she lives, which I was truly excited about since I never get to eat seafood in Dallas! We went to Vola's Dockside Grill right on the waterfront in Old Town Alexandria & the first thing we ordered was Rosé and Oysters...what's a better combo than that?! Those were some of the best Oysters I've ever had, so fresh and local to Virginia/Maryland. You really can't get oysters that fresh in Texas. For our entrees we decided to share some crab dip, a bucket of shrimp and french fries. Everything we ordered was so delicious, if I had to pick my favorite would definitely be the Oysters! We also stopped for some drinks and ice cream after dinner at Ben & Jerry's. We couldn't help ourselves, we were finally on vacay...treat yo self! My all time favorite kind of ice cream is chocolate chip cookie dough so of course that was the flavor I chose..so yummy! (keep reading below)
The next day Chelsey and I drove down to Corolla in Outer Banks, NC where we would meet the rest of my family who also drove down from my parent's house. Norfolk airport is the closest airport and it's around 1h30-2h away, so it was much easier to just drive down together. My mom rented a house (1st picture below) right on the beach, a huge three story house with a pool, basement and plenty of space for all of us to escape when needed! We've taken many family beach trips in the past and this was by far our favorite place. The next day we were debating whether we should go out to the beach or go buy some groceries, and things we needed since the weather wasn't cooperating. (Surely due to the hurricane) So we really didn't do much except prepare for the next day at the beach. All of the couples were in charge of making dinner one night each so, my sister Aggie and her boyfriend Clint made a delicious crab boil feast that night, pictured below. After dinner we went on a beach stroll and took some pictures, as you can see it was still pretty cloudy.
The next day we bought some boogie boards and skim boards to prepare for the beach day ahead. We were ecstatic that the weather was cooperating and thankfully it was sunny for the rest of the week! You can see my Mom and sister Lauren with Oliver (The first & cutest grandchild..and star of the show!) who looked to be having the time of his life. Halfway through the day I drove to pick up Derek, the last one to join the vacay. I'm glad he could make it since work has kept him extremely busy! Chelsey and her Boyfriend Jared were in charge of dinner for the night so they made quite the seafood and steak feast with oysters, crab, mozzarella & tomato salad. After the amazing dinner, Derek and I walked over to the beach since he hadn't seen it yet and took some more photos. The sky looked so beautiful with pastel colors..it looked like cotton candy! Derek was brave enough to go for a swim, it was a little bit chilly when the sun went down. The pictures of the sky are not edited one bit..and still it doesn't do it justice!
The next day we had another perfect beach day and more importantly when the week was finished an unforgettable family vacation. It's so important to take time for family and enjoy it while you can! Here are some miscellaneous photos below of the couples and family...Thanks for reading!
FYI I'll be heading to Colorado for Nick & Maggie's wedding this weekend so expect a new post next week..it should be beautiful!!
